The “Miracle” Value Of Influenza Vaccines
As flu season gets underway, now is the time to encourage your patients to get their annual flu vaccine, particularly your patients at high risk for developing complications related to the influenza, including adults 65 and older and those with chronic health conditions.
Powerful, Cost-Effective Prevention
As you likely know, and as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention frequently advocates, the flu vaccine is the most effective way to protect patients from contracting influenza and developing complications that require more complex care, including complications like:
Encephalitis
Myocarditis
Pneumonia
Respiratory and kidney failure
Sepsis triggered by respiratory tract infection
Of course, the flu can worsen existing chronic medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, and heart disease.
As a value-based care provider, offer the flu vaccine to patients and explain the value of vaccincation. In addition, be sure to record when you or your staff offer the flu vaccine to a patient, when you or your staff administer the vaccine to a patient, and when a patient declines to receive the flu vaccine.
